Malcolm is an internationally recognized expert in marine environmental modeling. His primary focus is in the areas of hydrodynamics, pollutant transport, oil spill transport, and the development of integrated modeling and monitoring systems. Recently, Malcolm has worked on developing three-dimensional circulation and water-quality models for coastal waters. He has also studied the entrainment of oil into marine intake systems and developed state-of-the-art oil spill models for spill response and contingency planning. Many of his model systems are now used throughout the world.
Malcolm is a Professor of Ocean Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. He earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering and applied mechanics from URI and later returned and completed a Ph.D. To learn more about Malcolm, check out his video entitled Disperse Immediately at http://www.youtube.com/user/CoastURI.
