Rhode Island Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship
The Rhode Island EPSCoR Academy in collaboration with the Rhode Island IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) established the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program (SURF) in 2008. During the program students complete 10 weeks of research and participate in career-building workshops, presentations, and trips. The areas of research include Biomedical Sciences, Genomics, Proteomics, and Marine Life Sciences.
At the end of the program there is a poster conference highlighting the research of the students and in the past have included topics such as cardiac development in zebra fish, and mercury bioaccumulation in the fish of Narragansett Bay. To learn more about the SURF program please visit
