David Bogen spoke with Ilona Miko about art-science collaboration on the NatureEdCast.
“In today’s podcast, Ilona talks with David Bogen, Associate Provost for Academic Affairs at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). David is interested in how digital technologies and new media can enhance education and foster innovation in teaching, scholarship, and creative work. Most recently, he has worked with faculty at RISD to develop a new approach to collaborating with scientists and looking at questions of science data visualization within the canonical studio context practiced in the art & design education setting. This effort is part of an NSF-funded Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, known as EPSCoR, which was granted to the state of Rhode Island. RISD’s involvement in the EPSCoR program is extensive, but one main effort is the support and creation of studio-based research leading to innovation in arts and design education while also improving the communication and visualization of science and scientific data. Listen to this podcast to learn about the early stages of a master plan to merge the creativity of art with scientific data. [11:36]
